Lake Wateree
It began as a river, used by Colonial traders and settlers to gain access to the “backcountry.” In 1919 Duke Power built a dam, creating a lake of nearly 14,000 acres with 190 miles of shoreline touching three counties. Commerce gave way to recreation. Through its history, the land around the lake has remained virtually undeveloped, and the Lake Wateree State Park just across the water from Liberty Hill Farms assures that much of it will stay that way.
